Plano, Texas The Plano Arts Coalition in celebration of National Arts and Humanities Month invites North Texas business, civic community leaders, artists, and residents to the 2018 State of the Arts on Sunday, October 21st at 5:30 p.m. at North Texas Performing Arts at The Shops of Willow Bend, 6121 W. The 2018 Keynote Speaker will be Chris Kiley, Associate Director for Texans for the Arts. Chris moved to Texas over five years ago to complete his graduate work at Texas Tech University from New York, New York and moved to the Austin area to pursue working with TFA in 2016. He considers Texas one of the best places on Earth and loves working on behalf of the people in his new home state. Chris has been involved in Texas politics for years and spent time while studying at Texas Tech interning for Congressman Gene Green from Houston in Washington D.C. immersing himself in arts policy and funding issues.
When Chris is not working on behalf of TFA, Chris is dedicated to arts education. Chris works for Austin non-profit Creative Action as a SPARK School Arts Integration Teaching Artist. In partnership with Austin ISD, Chris collaborates with classroom teachers to explore non-arts subjects and develop curriculum through a creative lens. Chris loves his work bringing the arts into the classroom and ensuring students receive a robust arts education.
Chris also has a background in Acting and Directing for the stage. Chris recently left his position at the Derryfield School in NH, where he served as Executive Director of the Derryfield Repertory Theater Program, a summer initiative dedicated to introducing young people to theater and producing professional musical theater productions.
Chris Kiley says, "I believe a healthy arts landscape is vital to providing us with happy, healthy communities. The arts give us a voice, but it is up to us to use it!"
Moderator
The moderator will be Ronald C. Parker. Ronald is the former President and CEO of The Executive Leadership Council (ELC). He has been a member of the organization representing senior African-American executives at Fortune 500 and equivalent companies since 1994 and has served on both the Council and Foundation Boards. Parker, who recently retired from his post as senior vice president for human resources, labor relations and global diversity and inclusion for PepsiCo, is focused on assuring that the ELC’s brand, programs and overall impact remain strong as the organization launches its aspirational goals. Most recently, Ronald chaired the highly successful Kinzey’s Harlem Renaissance Art Exhibit at the ArtCentre of Plano.

Frank Turner
With more than 40 years of experience in city management and urban planning, Frank Turner recently established Urban Opportunity, LLC to assist public and private clients identify, plan and conduct urban infill and redevelopment projects and programs. His extensive experience in managing a broad range of city departments, including planning, public works, engineering, transportation, building inspections, neighborhood services and downtown redevelopment, offers clients the seasoned and multi-disciplinary perspective required to undertake successful projects. Mr. Turner has organized numerous public/private partnerships involving project planning, negotiating incentives and development agreements and conducting public engagement. A major area of Mr. Turner's responsibility has been the nationally recognized revitalization of downtown Plano based on the principles of transit-oriented development and new urbanism. Frank Turner was critical to the re- use of PISD’s first high school into the Courtyard Theatre, the renovation of the Saigling House into an exhibition space and home for ArtCentre of Plano, and the re-development of downtown Plano into a vibrant part of Plano.
The final panelist is Kathy Kuddes, Plano Independent School District Fine Arts Director. Kathy Kuddes’ experience includes fourteen years in public school music teaching, Kodály Music Pedagogy, Folk Music Research, Music Curriculum Development, Elementary Music Classroom Materials & Resources, and Assessment in the Elementary Music Classroom
Guest Artist, Ray L Baker
Ray L Baker is described as a “person whose creative works displays skill and craftmanship with imagination, ingenuity, and beauty.” Original, innovative, creative are just a few of the words that describe the music of Ray L. Baker. For more than three decades, the professional performance of Ray L. Baker on the piano, alto, soprano, and tenor saxophones have been entertaining and motivating to all listening ears. The American for the Arts (AFTA) recently concluded a national study on Arts & Economic Prosperity 5, a study designed to measure the economic impact of nonprofit arts and cultural organizations across the United States. This is the tenth impact study by BCA over the past 20 years, and the second consecutive one with AFTA.
